Pros and Cons of OEM / Compatibles-Remains / Refill Kits

remanufactured.jpgIf you’re looking into purchasing OEM cartridges, you should stop and think twice. Although OEM’s are recommended to you by the manufacturer, the cost of keeping up with them can cost you more than you wish to spend. With that in mind, you should look into remanufactured cartridges.

Remanufactured cartridges are a great savings for anyone looking into saving some cash, and they provide you with nearly the same quality prints as the OEM. Although the manufacture frowns upon users buying aftermarket cartridges, it’s a great benefit for you and an even better benefit for the environment since your using a recycled cartridge. The only down side to using remanufactured cartridges is the rejection by some printers due to the programming the manufacture puts into the printers. Because they would like for you to only purchase their OEM items, they discourage the use of aftermarket cartridges by programming the printer to give you errors or messages about the item installed. Although there are ways around some errors, not all can be worked around.

Another money saving method is refill kits. This is pretty similar to aftermarket cartridges, with the difference of you refilling the cartridge. The benefit to doing this is the savings of anywhere near 60 to 80 percent of the OEM cost, and you don’t have to leave home to get it done. Of course, the downside is the same as the remanufactured cartridge. Since the printer will know the cartridge has been used, it may give you some errors, so not all cartridges are recommended for refilling.
