Hewlett Packard (HP) recently announced a price increase effective from September 1st, 2012 on select DesignJet ink supplies. According to HP, the average increase is approximately 3% on the associated HP inkjet cartridge product line, but this considers that the price of some items is not increase. Of the affected items (approximately 81 SKUs), the increase ranges from 2.5%-20%.
HP has announced that the price increase will fluctuate from model to model. The company said that most SKUs will tend to increase around 3%. According to HP, these price increases on select inkjet cartridges are in response to economic conditions of the world, including currency volatility.
HP’s expert line of DesignJet printers are typically specialty printers and these specialty printer inks generally cost more than regular one. Since these inks are reproduced particularly giving utmost effort, you can find less compatible or remanufactured ink alternatives available in the market. HP usually offers discount when you buy cartridges in bulk, so always seek for these offers.
The Company increases the Cartridge prices of its popular line of Laser Printers and Multifunction Printers (MFPs), such as the HP LaserJet by just about 2% or more. However, more importantly HP will increase the prices of cartridges on its legacy toner cartridges from 15-17%. These are particularly supplies used in “Legacy” Printer Models, such as the HP LaserJet printer models including- 4000, 4100, Color LaserJet 4600, etc. Besides HP, other printer manufacturers are also increasing prices of their Printer and other supplies.
