Page yield is the number of pages that can be printed with a printer Inkjet Cartridge. It is also popularly known as ink or toner cartridge yield. It is one of the factors to be considered when purchasing a printer cartridge. Some printer cartridge manufacturers use general term to describe the cartridges, such as standard yield or high yield, but each printer cartridge model should have a page yield, i.e., the number of pages it can print under standard conditions. It gives the consumers the total estimate of the cost per page (CPP) for that cartridge.
Generally, page yield is affected by wide range of things such as the content or the image you print, paper type, paper size, frequency of use and environmental conditions. Usually, different manufacturers carry out various tests to measure page yield, so consumers find it difficult to compare the page yields of different cartridges from different manufacturers. Today, the printer cartridge manufacturers use the same standard specification established by ISO to estimate the page yield of a given cartridge.
Testing inkjet cartridge yield as per ISO standard-
- Tests are conducted using default setting on plain paper.
- A set of five pages are printed successively until the ink cartridge ends up.
- A total of 9 cartridges should be tested on 3 different printers, not considering the 1st set of installed cartridges.
- The tests are conducted under controlled conditions.
