First of all, there is no need to panic as it is a common problem and can be resolved easily. When you monochrome ink cartridges are not working but the color inks are working perfectly, there can be some possible issues. At first find out the problem with the printer and why is it not documenting with black and white inkjet cartridges but only with color inks then you will need resolving the issue.
Estimated Reasons For Such Issue:
- Check if the printer has given you the warning about low ink or has the ink has actually run out. If it is so, then get the ink replaced as directed by the printer guide or manual. You need to understand that it is a myth that you don’t need black ink to print a color image. The truth is that you can print black text without the printer requiring a color cartridge but the opposite can’t happen. Also, majority of printers require both the black and color ink cartridges to be recognized while it is operating.
- In case the problem is still not resolved or the quality did not improve it’s possible that the print heads in the printer are the issue. The head cleaning will usually clear up the issue of the black cartridge not printing. Depending on the original cost of the printer it might be a bit more economical to replace the printer than try to have the print head replaced.
How to clean the print head?
Go to the printer maintenance facility and run a test print to see if there is a trace of black printing at all. Performing a head cleaning procedure will force ink from the ink cartridge through the print head and clear any blockage. It’s important to remember that each time you perform a head cleaning procedure you print a test page with Inkjet Cartridges to monitor the improvement of the print quality.
First, go to your printer icon at the bottom of your screen and select printer utility > maintenance > clean heads or go to file print and select printer utility > maintenance > clean heads.
